Schools vie for VM Foundation U-13 quarter-final spot
MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica — The last remaining qualifier in the St James Football Association/Victoria Mutual Foundation Under-13 competition will be decided on Thursday’s final day of the regular season when Barracks Road Primary meet Catadupa Primary in the second game of a double header at Wespow Park.
Barracks Road Primary are one of the seven teams to have booked a spot.
Chetwood Primary and Irwin Primary both secured their places from Zone D with wins over Anchovy Primary and Goodwill Primary, respectively.
Two-time defending champions Corinaldi Avenue Primary, Howard Cooke Primary, Albion Primary and Catherine Hall Primary are also through to the quarter-finals.
Newcomers Fairfield International Academy, on eight points, have completed their schedule and are in second place behind Barracks Road Primary in Zone B.
Catadupa, who are in fourth place with five points, must win by five goals to take the second spot.
Barracks Road, who were finalists last year, have won all four games so far, scoring 18 goals and conceding only two.
Catadupa have only scored four goals in as many games.
On Wednesday, Chetwood Primary beat Anchovy Primary 3-0 to edge Irwin on goal-difference. Irwin were 4-0 winners over Goodwill Primary.
Both schools ended their schedule on 12 points, but Chetwood are just marginally ahead on a goal-difference 14 to Irwin’s 13.
Kevin Porter scored a double to lead Chetwood, who led 1-0 at half-time, while Tyquan Davis also scored in the second half.
Rohan Gardner got a second-half brace for Irwin after Lebron Grey gave them the lead in the first half. Oraine Gayle added a fourth goal for Irwin.
Flanker Primary finished their season on a high, taking third in the group after beating Lethe Primary 3-0. Racquan Smith scored twice and Michael Williams got the other goal.
