Jamaica Auto Show 2025 highlights

With more than 25 automotive brands under one roof there were sure to be some surprises for patrons attending the Jamaica Auto Show (JAS) 2025.

Several dealers took the opportunity to début their latest models at the May 10-11 event inside the National Arena and National Indoor Sports Centre.

Here are a few of the unveils.

BAIC

Beijing Automotive Industry Corporation (BAIC), better known as Beijing Motors, as handled by former used car dealer Jetcon Corporation Limited, did a double drop at JAS 2025 with the X35 and the BJ30e. The numbers don’t tell the whole story. The X35 slots below the larger X55. Using 1.5-litre turbocharged engine, it sits in the very competitive subcompact SUV segment.

The BJ30e is, however, not a smaller version of the off-road focused BJ40. It is a more traditional compact SUV using a hybrid all-wheel drive powertrain that pairs a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine and an electric motor together for 403bhp and 505lb/ft of torque. Along with the impressive power figures Jetcon says buyers can expect just as impressive fuel economy figures.

BMW

Two continued to be the theme, but BMW didn’t reveal two new cars, just the all-new 2 Series in the guise of the 220 Grand Coupé, the brand’s smallest sedan. Small it may be, but it’s still a BMW and is packed to the gills with all the premium elements expected. From the new design that maintains the coupé roofline style BMW has made its own, to the performance from its 204bhp 2-litre turbocharged engine, to the exquisite interior, technology, and driving dynamics, the 2 Series should continue in its role to entice young buyers.

BYD

Leading the BYD unveil was the Sealion 7. Leading face forward, the Sealion 7 brings sporty styling to not just the compact SUV segment, but EVs as well. Continuing BYD’s Ocean X visual theme, it charts a low sleek appearance that doesn’t impact the interior, which is just as amazing as the exterior in terms of quality and features. The Sealion 7 doesn’t just look sporty, it is. The 82.56 kWh battery gives 480km of range and 523 bhp to all four wheels.

While the BYD Shark has been on sale since April, it has been rather rare to see in person, much like its aquatic namesake, so JAS 2025 was the best chance to get up close and personal with this disruptor in the pick-up segment. BYD has placed its new energy ethos into a genre dominated by torque and diesel. The Shark ensues all that for a Plug-in Hybrid drivetrain, starting with a 1.5-litre turbocharged motor, and two electric motors on each axle. Total output is 430 bhp, and 840 miles of range, including an all-electric range of 100km.

Flash Motors

Need to deliver cargo in a flash? then look no further than the Farizon SV cargo van. Billed as a Supervan, the model uses its electric platform to its best, for more space, power, and range than class rivals that Xavier Gordon, president & CEO, Flash Motors, says will change the commercial vehicle game.

Isuzu

The MU-X is all-new for 2026. For those who remember and want the old-school concept of the original sport utility vehicles it’s all here — diesel power, and genuine four-wheel drive capabilities for serious off-roading. There are two trims levels and engines, a 1.9-litre or a 3-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder. Inside, the MU-X is nicely appointed to haul its seven passengers across whatever terrain may come its way.

Kia

The Kia EV9 joins the EV5. The +4, means +2 seats, allowing the EV9 to haul seven in EV peace. Styling is similar to the futuristic shape that is the EV5, just scaled up to handle the extra passengers. The interior is packed with all the usual Kia goodies and range is up to 541km on an 800-volt architecture.
