Joy Haynes has galloped her way into the hearts of racing fans with her first-ever victory at Caymanas Park on Saturday, May 10, 2025. Guiding Ricardo Brown-trained Little Grovy Thing to victory in a thrilling come-from-behind effort, Haynes etched her name among the esteemed female jockeys to triumph at the track.
The talented and determined jockey, who recently graduated from the Jamaica Racing Commission’s Jockey School, showcased her skills and expertise in the saddle. Haynes’ victory in the day’s fourth event over five furlongs straight was a testament to her hard work and dedication to the sport.
The race was a three-year-old and upward Optional Claiming ($350,000-$250,000) event that included native-bred six-year-olds and upward (non-winners of three) over 5 furlongs (1,000m) straight. Little Grovy Thing defeated Sir Ganga Jamuna (Tyrese Anderson) by a head in 1:04.4 (24.2 x 50.1).
