Lyssons Primary leads after day two at Eastern Champs

Champions Lyssons Primary School surged to a 56.5-point lead after day two of the INSPORTS/Devon Biscuits Primary Schools Eastern Championship at the Stadium East complex.

The St Thomas-based Lyssons raced to 99.5 points after winning three of the 11 finals and are clear of St Patrick’s Primary, sitting in second spot on 43 points.

Last year’s third-placed school, Lawrence Tavern, occupy third on 42 just ahead of Half Way Tree Primary in fourth on 39 points. Harbour View and St Richard’s Primary are joint fifth on 38 points each, while Windward Road are seventh on 37 points.

The top 10 is completed by Rousseau Primary in eighth on 32 points, Red Hills Primary, ninth on 20 points, and Morant Bay Primary on 17 points in 10th spot.

Records were broken courtesy of Kemoy Jones of Seaside Primary in the Boys’ Cricketball Open with 57.01m, and Ariel Shaw of St Patrick in the Girls’ Class Four 60m dash with 9.08 seconds.

There were also records in the Boys’ Class Three 4×100 relays established by Lyssons with 54.16; St Richard’s in the Girls’ Class Two with an awesome 53.00, which was faster than Morant Bay record run in the Boys’ Class Two of 53.36 seconds.

In the blue riband 100m event, Ariel Shaw of St Patrick’s Primary lowered the Girls’ Class Four 60m record of 9.17 seconds, stopping the clock at 9.08 to be the fastest into the final set for Friday.

Lyssons’ Kathlia Roberts was fastest in Class Three 100m with 13.51 while Brianna Gray of Rousseau Primary is the fastest in Class Two heading into the final. Trenice McCalla of Half Way Tree Primary laid down the marker in Class One, clocking 12.90 seconds.

In the boys’ section, Dejuan Robinson (8.94) of Yallahs Primary and Daniel Baugh (8.97) of Red Hill Primary are the two fastest in the Class Four 60m.

In the Class Three 100m, Chadwyk Senior of St Patrick’s Primary looks a safe bet to win the final clocking 13.02 in his semis. Kejuan Brown of Windward Road was next best with 13.35.

In the Class Two, Asnani Campbell of Jessie Ripoll sped to 13.25 with Seabon Palmer of Morant Bay second fastest with 13.30.

Javon Bell of Pembroke Hall will take some beating in the Class One 100m final after setting the fastest time of 12.24 in the semi-final. Khamau Barnes of Iris Gelly was the second fastest with 12.59.

There will be 29 finals on the third and final day starting at 9:00 am.

In the first final, Couture Beason of Lyssons Primary captured the Girls’ Cricketball Open with a throw of 43.76m ahead of Kedeen Hunter of Harbour View with 37.13m. Tiara Francis of St Patrick’s Primary took third with 35.85m.

Kemoy Jones of Seaside Primary broke the record in the Boys’ Cricketball Open with 57.01m. The previous record was 55.69m held by Gersham Carr of Red Hill Primary set in 2024.

Goyon Bailey of Lyssons was second with 55.56m and Khalio O’Connor of August Town grabbed third spot also with 55.56m.

St Richard’s Tahiria Allen won the Girls’ High Jump Open with a leap of 1.45m just ahead of Shanate Williams of Lyssons in 1.43m. Alisa Cockburn of Windward Road was third with 1.33m.
