Children’s Day treats
Members of the National Child Month Committee (NCMC) were joined by officials of the Ministry of Education, Skills, Youth and Information; representatives of children services agencies; and sponsors of Child Month activities to pay tribute to the nation’s children on Friday.
This was to mark National Children’s Day, which is observed annually on the third Friday of May, through a proclamation by the governor general in 2012 to honour and celebrate Jamaica’s children.
Throughout this month, the NCMC is partnering with various stakeholders to organise activities dedicated to children.
However, on Children’s Day the NCMC, alongside children’s service agencies, and other stakeholders, commemorate the nation’s children in a unique manner with gifts and surprises.
NCMC Children’s Day activities were staged this year at St William Grant Park, downtown Kingston; Half-Way-Tree Transport Centre, St Andrew; Ocho Rios, St Ann; Morant Bay, St Thomas; and Santa Cruz, St Elizabeth.
The Jamaica Observer’s Joseph Wellington captured some of the highlights in Half-Way-Tree.
