Treasure Beach seek history in JFC final
ST ANN, Jamaica -Treasure Beach will seek to create history by winning the Jamaica Football Championships a second time when they meet Spanish Town Police in the final at Drax Hall today, set to start at 3:00 pm.
Both Treasure Beach FC and Spanish Town Police have qualified for next season’s Jamaica Premier League after beating Meadforest FC and Falmouth United, respectively in the semi-finals, which were completed last weekend.
Treasure Beach had won the 2022-23 staging of the competition, which was then called Tier II, beating Lime Hall FC at Foga Road High in Clarendon.
The St Elizabeth-based club had beaten Lime Hall 2-1 as both had gone on to participate in the Premier League but had been relegated after just one season.
Both teams had finished second in their respective zones in the regular season but had ‘upset’ their opponents in the semi-finals- Treasure Beach beat Meadforest FC 1-0 over both legs, while Spanish Town Police who were playing in the championships for the first time, overcame a first leg 1-0 deficit to beat Falmouth United in sudden death penalties.
Extra time and penalties will be used today, if necessary, to determine a winner.
