Young and ambitious
Stratton Early Childhood Development Centre students share aspirations on Career Day
THREE-YEAR-OLD Destiny Brown is convinced she is meant to become a doctor.
Why?
“God told me that I should be a doctor because I am a genius,” the outspoken Stratton Early Childhood Development Centre student told the Jamaica Observer.
“I want to be a doctor because they help people,” she added.
Her schoolmate, Krishna Stewart, also driven by a desire to help people, wishes to pursue a career in medicine as well.
“I want to be a doctor because I love helping people. Doctors take care of sick people — that is what I want to do, and to save lives. I have an issue that I have to go to the doctor with and that is why I want to grow up to be a doctor,” six-year-old Krishna said.
Theirs were among a range of ambitions voiced by the school’s students last Friday on Career Day, when they are allowed to dress in clothes depicting their chosen professions.
“When I grow up I want to be a coach to teach kids how to run,” six-year-old Faith Lamoth shared.
Jaheim Brown, too, has his eye on a career in sports, specifically football, and at age six he already has an idol — Argentine superstar and World Cup Champion Lionel Messi.
“I want to be a footballer. If I become a pro footballer I can have the money to take care of my family. Footballers make a lot of money. I would like to play for either Barcelona, PSG, Inter Miami and the Jamaica national team. My favourite player is Lionel Messi,” Jaheim, dressed in Inter-Miami CF gear, told the Observer.
Six-year-old Marquise Leahing’s desire is to fly, and get rich doing so.
“I want to be a pilot. I chose pilot because I want to make a lot of money,” he said.
Many other students turned up dressed as police officers and soldiers.
Principal Tiffany Nelson-Chambers was very pleased with the effort the parents made in preparing their children for Career Day.
“It gives the children a wide range of choices. From an early stage we try to expose them so that they will be able to know what they want to become,” Nelson-Chambers said.
“I am very pleased. The parents put in a lot of effort. As you can see, everyone here is well-dressed,” the principal added.
Outspoken three-year-old Destiny Francis says she wants to enter the medical field because God told her to do so.
Jaheim Brown, dressed in Inter-Miami CF gear, announces his intention to become a professional footballer, just like his idol Lionel Messi.
