Edna Manley College exam season in full swing with host of activities
KINGSTON, Jamaica — As exam season nears at the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts, an array of public showcases will be open to the public throughout May and June.
The next upcoming event, under the School of Arts Management and Humanities (SAMH) is “Artisan Vybe”, an interactive event featuring activities such as ceramic painting, fabric jewellery making and a fashion segment. This will take place on May 22 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm, on the Edna campus.
Meanwhile, the School of Music is in the final week of its shows, which began on May 2 and featured surprise appearances from reggae icons Beres Hammond and Keznamdi.
The showcase concludes this week with performances by fourth-year students — Khalil Blake with the EXIT on May 20 and Royal Caribbean by Eliezer Supre on May 22.
Also this week, the School of Dance launches its end-of-year productions, with four students presenting their original choreographic works. Matthew Richards (MATTU PERRY) opens the season with PERfiction on May 20, followed by Damany Hughes’ Voiceless on May 27, Arnella Bailey Britton’s Cubicle Tether on May 29, and Navesha Vickers’ unPACKED on May 30.
All performances will be held at the Bert Rose Studio Theatre at 7:00 pm nightly. Attendance is by RSVP only.
The School of Drama will also present four student actors with two performances Mythstake (Kizzy Hope) and Shannon Under Cover (Abijah Warren) scheduled for May 29, and two on May 31— Convicted (Franki-Ann Ricketts) and Tell Her (Rosebigate Newton).
These are to be held at 7:00 pm each night at the Dennis Scott Studio Theatre.
As is customary, the School of Visual Arts will close out the semester with its much-anticipated final year exhibition, this year themed “Social Reconstruction: ReImagining the Carib(BE)an” in celebration of the school’s 75 years of excellence.
The exhibition opens with a ceremony on Saturday, June 7 at 6:30 pm in the Vera Moody Concert Hall, featuring acclaimed author and academic Dr Opal Palmer Adisa as guest speaker. The exhibition will run for two weeks.
All events are free and open to the public.
