Miami — more than just a shopping, party hub
When one thinks of Miami, thoughts of endless shopping sprees or party-hopping immediately flood the mind. But the vibrant city is much more than its luxurious malls or high-spirited nightlife, it’s also a buzzing family hub. With limitless family-oriented activities, Miami is fast becoming a hot spot for families craving cultural indulgence and adventure.
In a recent showcase led by the Greater Miami Convention and Visitor’s Bureau (GMCVB), the city was displayed as journalists from across Latin America and the Caribbean were given a taste of Miami’s best.
From museums and immersive art centres to uniquely crafted culinary tours, Miami offers an envious itinerary of activities guaranteed to leave you and your loved ones craving more time.
According to Melina Martinez, the bureau’s marketing communications director for Latin America and the Caribbean, Miami is more than meets the eye, a fact she believes is worth exploring.
“At the GMCVB our goal is to create positivity around the destination and to increase tourism. Whenever we put together these fam-tours [family tours], one of the main goals is to showcase the destination in a specific way so every tour has a different theme. This time around we wanted to showcase the city as a family destination,” she said. “We always want to promote Miami as more than shopping, more than a party because we are so multi-cultural and we offer so much.”
“There are so many activities. There are zoos, the Everglades, and immersive art museums. You would have to be in Miami for a good 10-12 days to experience it all,” she continued. “And the best part is, you can take your kids along on all of these activities I mentioned, so Miami is a great destination for families. We invite you to come and immerse yourselves in the culture. So yes, come for the shopping and the parties but also, come experience art, the food, the science.”
Her point was further reiterated at a special travel agent presentation held recently at Jamaica Pegasus hotel.
Dubbed ‘A Taste of Miami’, the event gave guests a peek into the wide array of offerings the city has to offer. With a calendar of activities ranging from food and wine festivals to the FIFA Club World Cup, Miami is a kaleidoscope of fun all year round.
“Miami is very welcoming to tourists, there are many options to explore. Even sports tourism is booming in the city now. As you know, Lionel Messi came into town as our new resident and we are getting visitors from all over the place,” said Carolyn Corrigan, director of travel and industry sales at the GMCVB. “The Club World Cup is just around the corner, we host a few matches in Miami this summer. We will have renowned clubs like Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Chelsea FC and more and this will be a prelude to the World Cup next year. This is another notch to our destination, Miami.”
Still, on the topic of sports, Corrigan revealed that come 2026, Miami’s very own Inter Milan will have their own stadium dubbed Freedom Park. The stadium will be located some five miles from the Miami International Airport, making the city even more desirable.
“Come down to Miami and enjoy the immersive experience the city is offering. We have Jazz in the Gardens, Art Basel, the Miami Open [tennis], and Formula One. These iconic events make Miami the ideal destination,” she continued.
Her GMCVB colleague agreed. Outlining that with several Caribbean countries being in close proximity to the Miami area, GMCVB officials say they are hoping to attract more tourists from the region who want to see more than just shopping malls.
“People know Miami for the nightlife, for the beaches but certainly we are rich in culture, rich in heritage, rich in experiences. When you come to Miami, after a day of shopping, visit one of our museums. One thing may drive your trip but please, build an experience around that. There are a plethora of things to do. Try out the festivals, try out the restaurants, try it all.”
