UPDATE: Police say lawmen acted professionally in Grants Pen killing, road now clear
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The lawmen involved in an early morning killing that sparked fiery protests in Grants Pen, St Andrew on Wednesday acted in accordance with police standards, according to Head of the Public Safety & Traffic Enforcement Branch, Gary McKenzie.
“We want to assure the public that the police operated professionally and the requisite investigations are being done,” McKenzie said.
The police reported that a man known as “Sixx” was killed during a confrontation with cops in Grants Pen in the early hours of the morning. However, residents are disputing the police’s version of events and have alleged that the killing was an extra-judicial murder.
Sixx’s death triggered a fiery protest on Wednesday as residents set debris ablaze and blocked the intersection of Grants Pen Drive and Markland Drive.

McKenzie is now calling on two men whom he said are trying to cause “mayhem” to turn themselves in to the police. He identified the men as Dujohn Walker and “Busha”, who is also known as “Bin Laden”.
“We are saying to these men, you need to report to the Constant Spring Police Station, in fact by 6:00 pm,” McKenzie said.
“As we continue to ensure we secure the citizens, we will be in the area, and we will ensure that people who live and are passing through that area are safe,” he added.
