Morgan accuses PNP of spreading falsehoods to score political points
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Government Senator Marlon Morgan has accused the Opposition People’s National Party (PNP) of deliberately spreading misinformation in a bid to score political points, calling the alleged tactic “shameful” and “a new low” in Jamaican politics.
In a statement, Morgan said the PNP has adopted a strategy of “entering and then doubling down on patently false information,” even when clear evidence disproves their claims. He said this approach undermines Jamaica’s democratic process and disrespects the public.
Citing two recent incidents, Morgan pointed first to Opposition Spokesperson on Health Dr Alfred Dawes, who he said falsely claimed that a neurosurgical drill purchased by the Southeast Regional Health Authority (SERHA) for the Bustamante Hospital for Children was significantly overpriced. According to Morgan, Dawes referenced the cost of an entirely different piece of equipment with a different model number, despite being corrected.
He also criticised Opposition Senator Peter Bunting for stating that construction at the Prattville Primary and Infant School in Manchester Southern was stalled due to delayed government payments. Morgan said the contractor, Kyle Robinson, publicly refuted Bunting’s claim.
