Two newcomers, eight local-based payers in Reggae Boyz squad for Unity Cup
United Kingdom–based forward Rumarn Burrell and goalkeeper Tafari Chambers are the only newcomers named to the Reggae Boyz’ 21-man squad for the Unity Cup next week in London.
The squad was announced by head coach Steve McClaren during a virtual press conference on Thursday. McClaren says he will name two additional players to the squad this weekend, but did not disclose whether they will be local or overseas based.
The four-nation Unity Cup, which also features Trinidad and Tobago, Ghana and Nigeria, will take place at Brentford FC’s Gtech Community Stadium in West London from May 27–31. Jamaica face Trinidad and Tobago in their opening match and, depending on the result, will either meet the winner or the loser of the Ghana versus Nigeria fixture.
Burrell, 24, plies his trade in League One with Burton Albion, where he has netted 11 goals this season in 30 appearances. He qualifies to represent Jamaica through his parents, both of whom were born on the island. He was previously named in the Reggae Boyz’ preliminary 60-man squad for the 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup.
Chambers, also 24, features for Mount Pleasant Academy, this season’s Jamaica Premier League finalist. Striker Javon East and midfielder Bradon Cover have also earned recalls to the squad.
Chambers is one of eight local-based players named. The other seven are Warrener Brown, Dwayne Atkinson, Benjamin Williams, Shaquan Davis, Richard King, Daniel Green and Kyle Ming. The remainder of the squad comprises Mason Holgate, Dexter Lembikisa, Amari Bell, Greg Leigh, Stephen Young, Iassac Henry, Kasey Palmer, Jon Russell, Renaldo Cephas and Kaheim Dixon.
