Last Hoorah, Midnight Flight deliver impressive victories for trainer Byron Davis
Trainer Byron Davis enjoyed a thrilling day at Caymanas Park on Saturday, May 17, 2025 as he secured two impressive victories on the nine-race card. Davis’s wins came courtesy of Last Hoorah in the fourth event and Midnight Flight in the seventh, bringing his total victories for the year to three.
Last Hoorah’s triumph was a long-awaited one. The seven-year-old veteran gelding, priced at 9-1 odds, finally shed his maiden tag after an astonishing 32 starts. Guided by apprentice jockey Everette Clunis, Last Hoorah made a decisive move over the final stretch in the five-furlongs (1,000m) straight contest, storming home by 3 ¾ lengths to break his long-standing winless streak. With previous earnings of nearly $800,000, Last Hoorah’s victory was a significant milestone in his career.
Midnight Flight’s performance, on the other hand, was even more striking. The four-year-old grey filly hadn’t raced since February 23, but she returned to competition in style. With a defiant effort, she managed to hold off Smart Trick in the final furlong, crossing the line in 58.3 seconds over the five-furlong straight course on a sloppy track. The win marked
Midnight Flight’s fourth career success and earned her a spot in the Overnight Allowance class, a notable achievement for the talented filly.
