Top three expect to win in JWPL
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The top three teams are expected to repeat first round wins and increase their distance from the rest of the field when the Jamaica Women’s Premier League continues Saturday.
With fourth-placed Arnett Gardens drawing a bye this round, leaders and defending champions Frazsiers Whip, second-placed Cavalier SC and Los Perfectos FC are expected to win and widen the gap.
At the other end of the table, second-to-last Springers United will seek to atone for an administrative blunder that saw them lose a point to last-placed Federal United in their first round clash.
Frazsiers Whip are cruising and will be seeking a 12th straight win when they host Proven Girls at Royale Lakes Sports Complex.
The leaders won the first round game 7-1 and could win by another lopsided margin today with Nevillegail Able, Destiny Powell and Cassandra Smith leading the way.
Cavalier SC were held 2-2 by Arnett Gardens last week and will be chomping at the bit when they host Mile Gully FC who they had beaten 4-1 in the first round.
Shanel Spence, the top Cavalier SC scorer is on 19 goals, just one behind Arnett Gardens’ Shakira Douglas who leads the competition, and will be on the hunt.
Los Perfectos FC took over third place last weekend and will be away to WiFi United who they had beaten at home in the first round but are coming off a 3-0 win away to UWI Women’s FC.
Los Perfectos FC won 2-0 at Brooks Park in the first round but could be made to work hard at Carder Park today against a WiFi United team that could close an eight-point gap against Arnett Gardens.
Federal United’s only win so far came in the board room after Springers United were found to have used an ineligible player after the teams had battled to a 2-2 draw in Montego Bay.
Since then, Springers United have drawn and won a game while Federal have lost their next 10 games by an aggregate 50-6 but playing at home could give them an edge today.
At Jarrett Park, Real MoBay AFC will hope to catch UWI Women FC off guard and get their second win after having their game blown off last week due to a waterlogged Brooks Park field.
UWI Women had beaten Real MoBay AFC in the first round and will hope to rebound today if they are to stay with the top-half of the points tables.
