Wray & Nephew Strictly 2K Sports Day Edition scores with fans
Great music, party vibes, and creative outfits produced a winning medley at Wray & Nephew Strictly 2K Throwback Music Festival: Sports Day Edition on Saturday night at Mas Camp, Kingston.
The festival, well known for employing themes for each staging, urged patrons to represent four houses — red, blue, yellow, and green. Answering the challenge, this saw women donning everything from coordinated cheerleader outfits to customised jerseys. Men, on the other hand, got an opportunity to sport jerseys of their favourite English football clubs, while some opted for the Reggae Boyz kits.
Promoter Ibrahim Konteh, who represented the ‘coach’, could not have been more pleased with the festival’s success.
“The event keeps growing, especially our main staging. I’m really pleased with the turnout and everyone’s having a good time,” he told the Jamaica Observer.
He added: “We listen to patrons and essentially the sports day theme is about evoking a feeling of nostalgia. [We’re] taking you back to a memorable period when you were in high school or prep or primary school, the highlight would’ve been sports day. As you can see, we brought that to life here with our photo ops. The DJs had their respective houses and the people really came out dressed for sports day. So, it’s really an exciting theme and the response has been great.”
The night featured 2000s and 2010s classics from DJs Marc Chin (yellow house), Heavy D (red house), Johnny Kool (blue house), and ZJ Romzii and 1 Jav.
There were also surprise sets from dancehall artistes Chi Ching Ching and Armanii.
Konteh and his team are already looking ahead to make the 10th anniversary staging next year, suggesting it will be one for the books.
“We’ve expanded the brand where we’re no longer just 2000s, but also 2010s, because we understand that some of the consumers that were probably 10 [years old] and couldn’t party, but now that they’re 20, they want some throwbacks. As the event continues to grow we’re very pleased with how people have been supporting us and we continue to develop the brand with the best stage, best DJs, easy access bars, and just reciprocating the appreciation for our supporters,” he said.
