Police constable charged with 2024 assault of a man — Indecom
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) constable has been charged with one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm contrary to common law by the Independent Commission of Investigations (Indecom) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
He is Constable Maurice Hylton who appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Monday, May 27 in relation to the assault of a man.
It is alleged that the officer used excessive force against the complainant when he struck him in the head with a baton. The incident, which occurred on July 30, 2024, along Shortwood Road in St Andrew, was captured in a video recording.
Following an Indecom investigation, the ODPP ruled that Hylton should be charged with one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm contrary to common law.
