JLP rejects PNP call to rescind Dennis Chung FID appointment
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) has rejected a call by the Opposition People’s National Party (PNP) for the Government to rescind the appointment of Dennis Chung as chief technical officer of the Financial Investigations Division (FID).
The PNP’s general secretary made the call during a press conference at the party’s Old Hope Road headquarters on Thursday.
However, Government Senator Marlon Morgan, a senior member of the JLP’s communication taskforce, in a statement on Thursday, rejected the call by the party, which he says attempts to bully and manipulate systems established to ensure a fair recruitment process.
Senator Morgan said it would be disappointing if the PNP is seeking to bring the selection process into disrepute, given that a possible candidate of their choice was not found to have merited selection for the post.
He added that while the JLP holds no brief for Chung, the PNP should respect his record, which includes service at the Bank of Jamaica, the National Solid Waste Management Agency, the Office of Disaster Preparedness and several financial institutions, including Jamaica Money Market Brokers (JMMB) and Dehring Bunting and Golding (DB&G).
