McBean returned as head of Jamaica Police Federation
HANOVER, Jamaica — The immediate past chair of the Jamaica Police Federation, Sergeant Arleen McBean has been returned as head of the organisation for a third term.
Seven of the executive members that will be working with her were also returned.
McBean, who will serve a year in office, was selected during an election process that lasted for several hours on Wednesday evening — the final day of the two-day federation’s 82nd annual joint central conference at the Princess Grand Jamaica Hotel in Green Island, Hanover.
Sergeant Lloyd Duncan, who was returned as an executive member, was also elected to serve as general secretary for the federation which represents rank-and-file members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force.
The federation’s executive is made up of eight members including two inspectors, two sergeants, two corporals, and two constables — all of whom served last year and were re-elected by more than 450 police delegates.
The two inspectors are Jacqueline Brown and Blanche Codner. Peta-Gaye Williams and Tanisha Lewis are from the corporal rank while the constable rank includes Romaine Archer and Koy Marriott.
McBean, who is the federation’s first female head, was returned after serving a term from the May 22, 2024 election.
Sergeant McBean was first elected to the post in May of 2018 but her leadership reign was cut short. She was voted out of office by upset members who raised issues about her leadership of the organisation in January of 2019, but the Supreme Court later ruled in March of that year that she should be immediately reinstated.
