Two firearms seized in separate St Elizabeth operations
ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica — Police in St Elizabeth have seized two illegal firearms in separate targeted operations carried out in the parish over recent days.
The first seizure took place on May 24, in the Balaclava Police area. During the operation, police searched a dwelling house and discovered a multicoloured lunch bag hidden beneath the cellar. The bag contained one black and silver Lorcin .380 pistol, bearing serial number 507080, fitted with a magazine and two 380 cartridges.
One woman who resides at the premises, identified as Ingrid Tibby, also known as “Princess,” of Canewood District in Balaclava, was arrested and later charged. Tibby has been charged under the Firearms Act for possession of a prohibited weapon and unauthorised possession of ammunition.
The second firearm was recovered in Bantin District on May 28, during a joint police-military operation. Around 2:00 pm, law enforcement officers responded to information given and searched a plot of open land reported to contain illegal firearms.
The property, which was found to be cultivated with fully grown ganja plants, was thoroughly searched. Under the root of a mango tree, officers discovered a 38 revolver wrapped in black rubber strips.
No arrests have been made in relation to this discovery.
Investigations are ongoing.
