Why aren’t we following the guns?
Dear Editor,
The Jamaica Observer of May 29, 2025 reported on the finding of a massive number of guns at a port in Kingston. This situation has occurred from time to time.
It is, therefore, reasonable to assume that there are many which have been undetected so that the criminal scheme is being continued. This inference is reinforced by the fact that there is a high number of gun crimes and repeated discoveries of firearms by the police. These firearms are not made in Jamaica, so we know that they are imported.
What is remarkable is the absence of any reports which demonstrate a strategy of keeping the illegal importations under surveillance and then tracking their destination so as to apprehend those who are involved and responsible.
