West Indies Rum and Spirits Producers Association (WIRSPA) successfully concluded its TechCon 2025 conference in Jamaica last week, bringing together more than 120 industry professionals from across the Caribbean and beyond to share cutting-edge production technologies and sustainable practices.
The three-day event, held May 19-22, featured representatives from distilleries spanning Jamaica, Guyana, Barbados, Trinidad, Grenada, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic, collectively representing over US$1.5 billion in regional production capacity. Key highlights included groundbreaking environmental investments totalling US$85 million across the region.
The technical sessions covered advances in fermentation, distillation, and environmental management, with industry leaders emphasising the sector’s transformation toward becoming a multibillion-dollar industry that rivals established premium spirits categories worldwide. Here are some highlights.
