The Botanical Garden Of M Audrey Stewart-Hinchcliffe (Part 2)
Style Observer Gardening continues its exploration of retired businesswoman M Audrey Stewart-Hinchcliffe’s diverse range of plants enhancing the sanctuary she’s diligently cultivated. This is the primary reason she considers her garden not only a source of pride and entertainment, but also a form of therapy.
“It is my mental health therapy and one of my communication skills. My morning walks around the yard calm my spirit for the day. I am in the garden from the early morning, watering, pruning, repotting and taking photos of new blooms and colourful shrubs. My garden is also a communication tool as I take photos and send them out to family, friends, business and professional colleagues. Additionally, it’s also an entertainment hub, a photo studio and a plant educational space,” Stewart Hinchcliffe shared.
Her joy comes not only from seeing her flowers in bloom, but also from the simple things that make her garden special.
“I get great satisfaction watching things grow and bloom. I watch the birds and insects too, including the colourful ground lizards, and the seasonal colour changes”
As with any garden, it requires careful and consistent care. In advising others to achieve their perfect sanctuary, Stewart-Hinchcliffe advocates for patience, consistent watering, and understanding the specific needs of each plant.
“You have to be inspired, be prepared to put in the work and have a stick-to-it approach to achieve results. Plants can frustrate you. You must have patience and an objective… Consider garden space, the flowers and plants you love, and plan for the long haul. Study plants and their care and solicit help when necessary,” concluded Stewart-Hinchcliffe.
