In pictures: PNP protests against Chung’s FID appointment, says it sends ‘chilling’ message

The People’s National Party (PNP) on Monday morning staged a protest against the appointment of Dennis Chung as chief technical director of the Financial Investigations Division (FID), the organisation investigating the prime minister for illicit enrichment.

The PNP has insisted that Chung was a “biased and unfit” candidate who lacks the requisite qualifications while pointing out that he has, on several occasions, publicly come to the defence of the prime minister in the wake of damning findings against Holness by the Integrity Commission in its illicit enrichment probe of the head of government.

People’s National Party (PNP) stalwart Dr Peter Phillips speaks at the PNP protest against the appointment of Dennis Chung as chief technical director of the Financial Investigations Division (FID), the organisation investigating the prime minister for illicit enrichment, on Monday, June 2, 2025.

According to the PNP in a social media post, “When someone who publicly dismissed serious integrity concerns about the prime minister, concerns now under investigation by the FID, is then appointed to lead that very agency, it sends a chilling message: that corruption can be protected, normalised, even rewarded.

“This is a direct assault on our democracy, and it cannot stand,” the party said.

Jamaica Observer photographers were at National Heroes Circle for the demonstration. See photos in the gallery below.
