WATCH: ‘No to Chung’ says Buchanan
MANCHESTER, Jamaica— Attorney-at-law Isat Buchanan has criticised Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness over comments the latter made regarding a planned protest by the Opposition People’s National Party on Monday.
This is against the backdrop of Dennis Chung, the incoming Financial Investigation Division (FID) chief technical director, who is facing pressure not to assume the role.
“I want every labourite to protest against this hypocrisy… I want every labourite to protest wherever you are of the badmindism of the PNP that is trying to bring down the progress of the people. Stand up labourites. Stand up for justice. Stand up for truth. Stand up against the PNP,” Holness told Jamaica Labour Party supporters at a meeting in St James West Central on Sunday night.
However, Buchanan is accusing the government of fighting against morality.
“I want to talk to you about morality. This is important, because while I was sitting here waiting to address you, your Prime Minister was on a platform inciting… citizens of Jamaica to stand against immorality and corruption, and I am going to ask everybody in the crowd to stand,” said Buchanan before telling PNP supporters to stand at the Bellefield divisional conference in Manchester Central on Sunday night.
“You are standing to say no to corruption. You are standing, because the appointment of Chung is wrong,” he said.
He then instructed supporters to say “no to Chung, no to corruption”.
“We are going to rescue Jamaica… Chung will not be appointed to the FID. He will not take that office,” said Buchanan.
“I am not casting any aspersions on Chung; I am simply saying it is wrong. Having made pronouncements, you cannot be a judge in your own cause,” Buchanan said while criticising comments made by Chung about Holness.
