Petrojam ready with critical fuel supplies for the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season
KINGSTON, Jamaica — As Jamaica’s primary storage facility for strategic reserves of fuel, Petrojam says it is prepared for the North Atlantic Hurricane Season that commenced on June 1.
The company, in a statement on Tuesday, gave the assurance that it has vast supplies of all major fuel types at its Kingston and Montego Bay storage facilities as part of the country’s energy safety net, valued at US$200 million (JM$32 billion).
“Our energy supply resiliency is strong, and we are ready,” declared Petrojam General Manager Telroy Morgan. He assured, “Ensuring swift and efficient delivery of much-needed fuel in the aftermath of a natural disaster is something we take very seriously. Our fuel supplies will therefore be critical to mobilising emergency response fleets, backup generators, disaster operations teams, air travel, businesses and consumers.”
For Morgan, the experiences of past storms have provided valuable lessons to Petrojam. Among them, the need to bolster the country’s strategic fuel reserves, improve supplier relationships and enhance operational flexibility. This provides Petrojam with the ability to supply two to three weeks minimum of finished petroleum products to the country.
“We buy, store, process and manage millions of barrels of oil — the value of which is subject to upward and downward movements in global prices. We carry this grave financial risk as part of our national commitment, especially in times of need,” Morgan said.
