No clear favourite for 1000 Guineas crown today
FANS are in for a thrilling day of action at Caymanas Park today with the highly anticipated running of the 2025 1000 Guineas taking centre stage. With no clear standout among the three-year-old fillies this year’s edition promises an unpredictable and closely contested finish over eight furlongs for a purse of $4 million.
The build-up races have offered little clarity. In both the Thornbird Stakes and The Portmore four different fillies filled the top finishing positions, suggesting an even playing field. That trend continues into today’s classic for which Social Aviator and Burning Hedge are the leading contenders.
In The Portmore Stakes, Social Aviator pulled off a narrow neck victory over the reigning two-year-old champion
Burning Hedge, aided by a seven-pound pull in the weights. That weight swing could once again prove decisive, although any improvement from either filly could tilt the balance.
Social Aviator previously won the Hot Line Stakes but couldn’t repeat that effort in the Thornbird during which she finished second to Hansa, conceding nearly 10 pounds. She’ll have to show more consistency to stamp her class on this field.
Further back in the pecking order, Pretty Perfect and Mighty Gully — both lightly raced — finished six lengths behind the top pair in The Portmore. While they will need significant improvement to challenge, fillies are known to make rapid progress in short spans, and both could surprise with a big run.
Seven horses are scheduled to compete for the Eros Trophy for the graded stakes and open allowances over seven furlongs with a purse of $1.750 million. The event is the co-feature race on the 10 race card which will be run over seven furlongs, with Commandant, Digital One, and Tiz Tok expected to fight out the finish. Is That A fact, Wall Street Trader, Unspun, and Interestntimesahead are the other runners in the event.
