Symbolic and personal
Excelerate president visits Jamaica team immediately after finalising New Fortress acquisition deal
ON May 14, the day Excelerate Energy finalised its acquisition of operations previously managed by New Fortress Energy in Jamaica, President and CEO Steven Kobos visited the country to underscore the company’s commitment to its people and culture.
Kobos met with the nearly 100 employees to affirm Excelerate’s core values — safety, accountability, integrity, and leadership — and recognise the expertise and dedication of the newly integrated team.
“Successful integration begins with people, culture, and shared purpose,” a company release quotes Kobos. “Visiting Jamaica on day one wasn’t just symbolic, it was personal. I wanted to meet the team, hear their stories, and see first-hand the pride and professionalism they bring to their work. Their deep expertise and commitment to excellence are truly inspiring. It is clear we are building on a foundation any company would be proud to inherit.”
During his visit Kobos toured the Clarendon combined heat and power plant in Hayes, Clarendon, and the Montego Bay LNG terminal, engaging directly with front-line staff.
These interactions reflected Excelerate’s people-first approach and highlighted the team’s vital role in powering Jamaica over the past nine years.
“We are building on a strong foundation laid by an exceptional local team,” Kobos said. “Jamaica has long been a leader in the region’s energy transformation, and we are proud to be a part of its continued progress. Together, we will drive innovation, invest in meaningful progress, and grow with purpose — delivering lasting value to our communities and the customers we serve.”
Excelerate said that as it begins this new chapter in Jamaica it remains focused on fostering strong local partnerships, empowering its people, and advancing energy solutions that support national development.
“With a proven track record and a unified team, Excelerate is poised to drive continued progress — delivering reliable, cleaner energy to Jamaica and the wider region for years to come,” the company said.
