Reconsider Chung
Dear Editor,
The appointment of Dennis Chung to the Financial Investigations Division (FID) raises serious concerns regarding the potential impact on the investigation into allegations involving the prime minister.
Given the perceived public friendship between Chung and Prime Minister Andrew Holness, fuelled by his prior statements on the matter now under investigation, it is reasonable to question whether the investigation will be conducted with the requisite impartiality and independence.
As a matter of utmost importance, the FID must maintain the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and impartiality in its investigation. Any perception of bias or conflict of interest could irreparably compromise the credibility of the investigation and undermine public trust in the agency’s findings.
In light of these concerns, I strongly urge the Government to reconsider Chung’s appointment and, instead, appoint a senior executive with proven competence in investigation and management, as well as experience in navigating complex political and legal landscapes. Such a leader would be better equipped to ensure the integrity of the organisation and the investigation, thereby maintaining public and international confidence in the FID’s ability to conduct a fair, thorough, and impartial investigation.
