Grand Slam Track cancels Los Angeles meet – reports
The inaugural season of Michael Johnson’s Grand Slam Track will end prematurely with the cancellation of the fourth and final meeting that had been scheduled for Los Angeles later this month, according to media reports.
According to The Independent, the cancellation was due to financial reasons – the LA meet being deemed not viable financially.
It noted that the meeting will not be replaced by another host city, bringing a premature end to the season which has seen earlier stops in Kingston, Jamaica and Miami and Philadelphia in the United States.
Still, the article reported that organisers view the inaugural season as a success and remain confident that Grand Slam Track will continue in 2026.
New investors are set to be announced next week, The Independent reported.
Johnson is the founder of Grand Slam Track, which debuted in Kingston in April.
Conceived by the track legend as a way of reinvigorating interest in athletics outside of Olympic years, the series aims to showcase more races between the world’s best runners, sprinters and hurdlers. There are no field events.
