TikToker Mello Vibes refuses to change his name
Rising Jamaican Tiktoker Mello Vibes has refused to change his name amidst growing concerns that he is competing with popular Jamaican retro party series that shares the same name.
The increasing popularity of his reaction videos over the past two years has made the Tiktoker and YouTuber even more noticeable in the Caribbean Diaspora, this has also contributed to the pushback as some individual accuse the social media standout has stolen the name from the Jamaican event.
“The name Mello Vibes has been associated with me for many years. My name is Melvin, so growing up I was call Mello. In 2017, when I went to work in the hotel industry as an entertainment coordinator, the guests gave me the exact name ‘Mello with the vibes’,” Mello Vibes explained.
The US-based content creator also has the name Mello Vibes registered officially as a business in the United States.
He does admit that there are people who assume he is affiliated with the party series in Jamaica, but believes that both brands can coexist in the entertainment space.
“My brand is global with over 600,000 followers spread across all social media platforms. I started these reaction videos to help young talent get an audience so they can express their thoughts through music and entertainment. I never intended to cause any confusion, so I’m setting the record straight. Big up the Mello Vibes event the same way, but I’m not changing my name,” he explained.
Mello Vibes believes people should check out his platforms and watch his reaction videos not only for the animated nature of his authentic reactions, but also because he is showcasing talent that you may not normally see or hear on traditional media.
“I’m here to highlight talent from all over the globe on my TikTok, IG and YouTube channel. It’s a great opportunity for fringe talent to get a highlight and I’m glad to facilitate that, plus I give reactions in authentic Jamaican style and dialect, and always some entertaining content. I have a reaction for everyone, so I might have one for them!” Mello Vibes added.
The fast-rising social media personality will also be staging his Mello Talent Show on his YouTube platform soon.
