Vaz to launch night football league in Portland Western
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Member of Parliament for Portland Western, Daryl Vaz, will launch the Western Portland Night Football League in his constituency on Sunday at Lynch Park.
Twenty-four teams from across the constituency will compete for their share of over $1 million in cash and prizes.
In highlighting the important role that sports have played in the development of youth and building a stronger sense of community within his parish over the years, Vaz said that every effort is being made to ensure that this night league will be among the most memorable competitions staged in Portland West.
“This year marks 16 years since I was first sworn in as the Member of Parliament for Portland in 2009 and 19 years since I was sworn in as the constituency chairman. In that time, I have invested heavily in sports and sports infrastructure in the constituency, and this night league is possible because of the work that has been done over the years,” added Vaz.
He has extended an invitation to all residents and stakeholders of the constituency to be a part of the night football league which will see a prize of a bike being awarded to a super fan at the end of the competition.
The league is being sponsored by the office of the Member of Parliament, along with private sector companies including CALS Foods, Select Brands, Locker Room, and Superior Auto.
