Investing in leadership: Sandals Ochi graduates new supervisory cohort
SANDALS Ochi Beach Resort recently celebrated 16 staff members who completed an accredited supervisory management professional development programme, marking a significant milestone in workforce training and team member advancement.
The three-month-long programme was in collaboration with Human Employment and Resource Training /National Service Training Agency (HEART/NSTA Trust), and the National Council on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (NCTVET),
The programme drew widespread interest across varying departments, culminated in a grand graduation ceremony.
Joy Bernard, training and development manager and graduate, emphasised her commitment to leadership and continued learning.
“I took this course to lead by example. When I tell others about the programme, I can confidently say I’ve done it and so can you. This is one such course offered by the Sandals Corporate University (SCU) for our budding leaders,” said Bernard.
In the meantime Daniel Jenkie, receptionist and graduate, highlighted the camaraderie that made her journey memorable.
“Team support could not have been better. When I needed help, others stepped in — and I did the same for them. It was a win-win for all of us.
“Any time I see an opportunity for personal growth, I jump for it. Being employed at Sandals Ochi and having the ability to work while pursuing my education is such a blessing. I feel extremely proud and so happy,” said Jenkie,
Danielle Thompson, a member of the resort’s gift shop team and a proud mom, was emotional as she shared her experience with her eight-year-old daughter Ziya Morral.
“I had just returned home late after a busy day at work and class. I just wanted to throw in the towel. I thought it was late again and I would not have time to spend with Ziya before bed. I was pleasantly surprised as she ran to the door, gave me a big hug and shared that she was going to get a prize for her schoolwork because she did well so the two of us will receive prizes.
“This statement melted my heart and energised me to push through along with the wonderful support from my colleagues,” said Thompson.
Carol Bourke, general manager of Sandals Ochi Beach Resort, had high praises for the graduates.
“We are extremely proud of all our graduates today. This demonstrates what happens when we believe in our team and invest in their growth. We’re proud to offer programmes that not only build skills but also foster community and collaboration,” said Bourke.
