Kyodi dedicates debut album to his mother, who passed away a year ago

Exactly a year after his mother passed away from complications associated with breast cancer, dancehall artiste Kyodi is set to release his debut album titled 146.

The 14-track album, which features production by the likes of Markus Records, Sweet Music, Tego Boss, YGR and Ivey League among others, is set for release on Saturday, June 14.

There are collaborations with dancehall artistes Shane-O, Nhance and Tishaine.

In an interview with Observer Online on Friday, Kyodi, who is best known for the song When Mi Nice, shared the relationship he enjoyed with his now deceased mother.

“Me and my mom had a great relationship! Just like any other child/son, I get on her nerves at times, but yeah we were close. She was supportive of me and my work and anything that I did that was positive and constructive,” Kyodi said.

He added, “The love that I shared with my mother is beyond words can describe, and as such I thought it fit to dedicate his latest workpiece to her memory. The album represents a piece of my soul. I encourage all my fans and general musical lovers to support this project. It also has sentimental value because it is dedicated to my late mother.”

The collaboration on the album, Born Fi Great, which features Nhance, is among the highlights of the project.

“Working with Nhance was a cool vibe, he’s a cool yute and very talented. Our collaboration came about through his manager Tego Boss, who is a close friend of mine. He reached out to me and I quickly agreed,” said Kyodi.

“This song is a motivational track with a difference because we never just want fi tell di youths dem fi do di right ting we also wanted our fans to be able enjoy a song dat has all the elements of a hit song. From when we a voice it in the studio I could tell that it was going to be a powerful track. Every yute wheh a pree elevation ago rate this track.”

Born Kyodi Green, the Kingston native rose to stardom following his breakout hit “When Me Nice” which charted locally and internationally. He has also scored hits such as Asset and Conspiracy, which features Jahmiel.
