Rhythm Buzz dances to Lui Chie Poo Trophy
RHYTHM Buzz, with the bustling Phillip Parchment aboard, captured the feature Lui Chie Poo Trophy over eight furlongs at Caymanas Park on Saturday.
Going off at odds of 7-5, Rhythm Buzz, trained by Vincent Atkinson, won the event comfortably by seven and a quarter lengths. Blue Vinyl, under apprentice Demar Williams, finished second while third place went to Rainsville, ridden by fellow apprentice Tyrese Anderson.
Parchment broke Rhythm Buzz sharply and kept his mount in second position behind early leader Blue Vinyl. However Rhythm Buzz surged to the front, entering the home stretch, and pulled away in the final furlong to win the event quite comfortably.
Also on the day, Midnight Galaxy, partnered with apprentice Emelio McLean, led from gate to wire to claim the co-feature Valbert Marlowe Memorial Cup over nine furlongs. Trained by Oral Hyden, Midnight Galaxy scored by two and a half lengths in a time of 1:56.4 minutes at odds of 3-1. Brenda Boy finished second while Captain Sparrow came in third.
“We prepared him for this race, and this race didn’t have any speed so I just told the jockey to just break and watch them, and move four furlongs off and make them catch you if they can — and they didn’t catch him today,” Hyden said. “I was always confident going into the race because there are a lot of slow horses in the race. And the jockey was very confident as well because he worked him in the mornings and he told me that is very sound.”
