Supreme Ventures 24th Anniversary Trophy up for grabs at Caymanas Park today
HORSE racing fans are in for a sizzling sprint spectacle today at Caymanas Park as the Supreme Ventures 24th Anniversary Trophy — a Grade One Graded Stakes/Open Allowance race over six furlongs — tops the card in celebration of Supreme Ventures Limited’s (SVL) 24 years in the gaming business.
Since taking over from the Jamaica Lottery Company over two decades years ago, SVL has become a key player on the local gaming scene. The company’s influence on horse racing deepened in 2017 when it added live racing promotion to its portfolio under a lease with Caymanas Track Limited.
This year’s renewal of the anniversary feature has drawn a small but high-quality field of six runners — including five foreign-bred contenders — a clear reflection of the dominance of imported talent at this level. Lone Jamaican-bred runner Fearless Soul has a tall order ahead as he lines up against American-bred rivals Legacy Isle, Champion Bubbler, Digital One, Wall Street Trader, and Chocomo.
All eyes will be on Legacy Isle who returns to the track in strong form. The Rohan Crighton-trained runner made a statement in his last outing, going wire to wire to win the HarlequinTrophy in commanding fashion. With leading rider Raddesh Roman back aboard he is expected to set a blistering pace once again.
But Digital One, a reliable filly from the Gary Subratie barn, could prove a serious threat. With seven wins and eight placings from 16 career starts she rarely runs a bad race. Her latest effort in the Eros Trophy, during which she led for most of the seven furlongs before being caught late, shows she’s still in top shape. Lightly weighted under apprentice Emelio McLean, she may just have the tools to reverse recent form.
Also in the mix is Wall Street Trader, who showed promise in the same Eros Trophy but faded to third after launching his challenge on the stretch. With a heftier impost to carry this time, trainer Rohan Mathie and jockey Shane Richardson will be hoping for a smoother trip.
Champion Bubbler, beaten into second by Legacy Isle in her last outing, is back in familiar sprint territory and cannot be dismissed — especially if the pace breaks down. Meanwhile, Chocomo and Fearless Soul, both recently elevated to this class, will be aiming to shake up the form book with career-best efforts.
