Hotel server charged with possession of counterfeit notes
KINGSTON, Jamaica—Thirty-two-year-old server Obrian Sittal, otherwise known as ‘OB’ of Spot Valley, Little River, St James, has been charged with two counts of possession of counterfeit currency notes following an incident at a hotel in Hanover on Sunday, June 22.
Reports from the Green Island police are that sometime in June, several guests reported that monies left in their rooms were switched out with counterfeit notes.
An investigation was launched at the hotel. Following the investigation, Sittal was identified as the culprit.
He was accosted and searched while at work on the aforementioned date and was found with six US$100 notes , four US$50 notes and 18 US$20 bills , all bearing the same serial number, in his possession.
After the discovery, the police were summoned, and he was taken into custody. The initial find led the police team to conduct an operation at Sittal’s house.
A search of the premises resulted in the discovery of seventy-five US$100 bills, three US$50 bills, twenty US$10 bills and twenty US $5 counterfeit notes, along with Jamaican and Canadian currencies, in a shoebox in his bedroom.
