Dear Editor,

Alive in 2025, the Jamaica Olympic Association (JOA) and the local Olympic movement continue to thrive in making history from today’s iconic moments as we inspire tomorrow’s legends. Legends not only of golden medal feats but, more importantly, legends of humanity, legends of a global citizenry.

So let’s deep dive into the theme for Olympic Day 2025 which is ‘Let’s Move.’ Let us dive and explore the deep depths of the oceanic floor of humanity where the treasures of truth, integrity, unity, peace and love and the soul of a nation are found.

My call yesterday, today, and for tomorrow is for us, as a people, an Olympic family, to construct a nation in sport. Let’s build nationhood on the field of play beyond admirable times on electronic boards, beyond record-breaking performances, beyond the top of the podium where anthems play. Let us go beyond and into the realm of glory in sport, into sport’s temple of fair play, equity, inclusion, respect, friendship, excellence, and integrity.

I salute you, our member associations and federations, for gifting to sport your immeasurable commitment and talent. I salute you, our Olympians for giving to history stories of excellence, valour, and resilience, and to the present and future generations, best-sellers in sporting valiance. I salute you, our supporters, our team in the stands who invest heart and voice in urging on our Olympians on the fields and courts of play.

Sport is the kinetic spirit of our aspiring youth. It is the poetic beauty in motion of a gymnast. It is the electrifying speed of an athlete. It is the heaving strength and prowess of a weightlifter, wrestler, and judoka. Sport is the synergistic energy of rugby, football, basketball, netball, and hockey teams. It is the artistry, majesty, and magic of synchronised swimming. It is chivalry of skiing and skating on glistening ice. It is a movement of a people, a community in action, a city on an onward journey, and a nation on a forward mission.

Let’s therefore move. Let’s move with power, with purpose, with one heart and with one love towards a common destiny in victory.
