Queens win ISSA Girls’ national basketball title
KINGSTON, Jamaica—The Queens School defeated Camperdown High 43-30 in their replayed final of the ISSA girls’ basketball competition that was played at Jamaica College on Monday.
The game was originally set to be played last Monday as part of a four-team play-off at Mt Alvernia High in Montego Bay, but the final was blown off just before half time because of heavy rain and winds.
The Queens School had a lead at the stoppage, while Mt Alvernia High were awarded third place after they were given a walkover win over Manchester High, who had failed to show up at the play-offs.
In the replay, the Queens, who were led by Danae Brown, who scored a game-high 17 points, led from the start and were up 7-1 after the first quarter, 28-4 at halftime, and took a 26-point lead, 36-10, into the final quarter.
De-eziah Martin of The Queens School, who was named the competition’s MVP, also scored 11 points and had nine rebounds, while Kimora Martin led Camperdown High with 10 points.
