WATCH: Fire contained on Spanish Town Road
KINGSTON, Jamaica— Firefighters are now conducting cooling down activities after a Fesco gas truck caught fire on Spanish Town Road in the vicinity of Riverton City dump on Monday morning.
Acting Commissioner Leroy Orr informed Observer Online that further investigation will be required to determine the cause of the fire.
“We were called to an incident at approximately 11:58 am with a tanker on fire on the roadway. We quickly responded with units from Trench Town, Half-Way Tree and York Park. When we got on the scene, we saw the tanker on fire, and we quickly got into operation, and we were able to contain and eventually extinguish the fire.
A warehouse was also on fire at the front of the premises. We also attacked that fire and managed to brought it under control, and we are now conducting cooling down operations. We haven’t established what has caused the fire yet. Investigations will be done at a later date to establish that information,” he said.
Thirty-seven firefighters responded to the massive blaze, which spread to the Agri World Farm Store on the strip.
There have been no reports of injuries to civilians; however, Orr said a firefighter sustained a minor injury.
“No reported civilian injury. Firefighter, we have a minor injury, but it is something that we can take care of… The driver of the truck, we haven’t received that information as yet, but no injury occurred to the driver of the truck. We haven’t gotten any information at this time of anyone being affected by the smoke,” Orr said.
