Duanvale win Trelawny Major League
TRELAWNY, Jamaica —Duanvale FC were crowned Trelawny Football Association/Duncans Complex/Wykeham McNeil Major League champions after beating Salt Marsh FC 6-5 on sudden death penalties after they had played out a 1-1 draw after regulation time at the Trelawny Multi-purpose Stadium on Sunday.
Duanvale FC led 1-0 at the half-time break before Salt Marsh equalised in the second half and forced the game to go to penalties, where Duanvale’s veteran goalkeeper Devaughn Hawthorne saved a penalty to make the difference.
In the third-place play-off, Harmony FC beat Jackson Town 3-2.
Sunday’s win was the second time Duanvale were getting the better of Salt Marsh this season after beating them 3-1 in the cross-zone and had beaten Harmony 4-2 in the semi-finals, while Salt Marsh had beaten Jackson Town 4-0 to qualify for the final.
On Sunday, Oshane Brown gave Duanvale the lead when his shot from the left wing sneaked past the Salt Marsh defenders and goalkeeper Tyrece Facey and into the far corner of the goal in the 13th minute.
Salt Marsh pulled level in the 65th minute when Kaywana Harvey poked the ball across the goal from a melee, and Orlando Ferguson had a chance to win it for them in the 73rd minute, but his shot from the left wing was just wide of the far post.
In the penalty shoot-out, the teams were tied at 5-5 after the regulation kicks before Hawthorne saved Harvey’s sudden death kick, before Orlando Grey scored the winner.
