Legacy Isle, Lockdown rule at Caymanas Park
LEGACY Isle and Lockdown turned in commanding performances to capture the feature and co-feature races, respectively, on Saturday’s nine-race card at Caymanas Park.
The American-bred Legacy Isle, ridden by champion jockey Raddesh Roman, delivered a flawless performance to win the Supreme Ventures Limited (SVL) 24th Anniversary Trophy over five and a half furlongs. Trained by Rohan Crichton, the 3-5 favourite coasted home by nine and a quarter lengths in a time of 1:06.0, after setting splits of 23.1 and 46.4.
Breaking sharply from post position four, Legacy Isle went straight to the lead and never looked threatened, cruising home ahead of
Fearless Soul in second and Chocomo in third.
Roman, who earlier partnered Emperorofthecats to victory in the fourth race, was pleased with the colt’s continued improvement.
“This horse is a very good horse, and he is getting over his issues day by day. He’s one of the best horses in the country,” Roman said. “The instruction was to get a clean break and just ride a good race — and he ran much better than the last time I won on him.”
In the co-feature Mr Lover Lover Trophy, contested over nine furlongs and 25 yards, former champion jockey Wesley Henry guided
Lockdown to an easy win. The runner pulled clear in the stretch to finish ahead of Alive in second, while Nuclear Jet came in third.
Henry, like Roman, completed a double on the day with an earlier win aboard Amad Ali in the opening race.
