Janessa Smith earns 3rd Stellar Gospel Music Awards nom
At just 15 years old, Janessa Smith is making waves in the gospel music industry.
The young artiste has received her third nomination for Youth Project of the Year at the 40th Annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards, set to take place in Nashville, Tennessee, from August 14–16, 2025.
This nomination comes on the heels of her debut win at the 37th Annual Stellar Awards in 2022, where she became one of the youngest recipients in the award’s history.
Born in the Bronx, New York, to Jamaican parents Kevin and Ann Marie Smith, Janessa’s musical journey began at the tender age of four. Her father, a gospel music producer, introduced her to the rich sounds of gospel music, which deeply influenced her artistic development. Now residing in Long Island, New York, Janessa continues to draw inspiration from her Jamaican heritage and her family’s musical background.
Janessa’s project Sounds of Joy, released in February 2025, has resonated with audiences worldwide, showcasing her growth and commitment to her craft. The project has garnered attention not only in the US but also in countries like Jamaica, South Africa, and Nigeria, highlighting her international appeal.
The Stellar Gospel Music Awards, established in 1985, recognises excellence in gospel music and has celebrated the achievements of artistes across various categories.
