Guyanese man arrested for abduction of 13-y-o girl
A Guyanese man was arrested on Wednesday in connection with the alleged abduction of a 13-year-old girl whom he reportedly held hostage at his home on the East Coast of Demerara, Guyana, for several days.
The child was reported missing by family members on June 18.
According to a report by Kaieteur News, a taxi driver saw the child walking alone at a location and picked her up. He quickly alerted family members via telephone that he had found her.
Her family members reportedly advised the taxi driver to take her to the nearest police station. The teenager reportedly told the police that she was held against her will on the East Coast of Demerara for a couple of days.
The police were reportedly taken to a location by the teen where the suspect was found. It is not yet clear whether the child has been assaulted.
The man has since been taken into police custody for questioning.
His identity has not been revealed.
