Health authorities meet over 24 reported deaths of babies at Victoria Jubilee Hospital
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Health authorities are now meeting to assess reports of the deaths of 24 babies at the Victoria Jubilee Hospital in Kingston since June 1, 2025.
The South East Regional Health Authority (SERHA) confirmed to Observer Online on Thursday that a high-level meeting is underway but declined to provide further details at the time.
Victoria Jubilee Hospital is the largest maternity hospital in the English-speaking Caribbean and has faced scrutiny in the past.
In 2022, 12 babies died as a result of a bacterial outbreak at the medical facility.
The outbreak, which was discovered in July of that year, saw seven babies dying at the end of that month. Two died in August, another two in September, and one in October.
