JFF promises pleasing decision for angry fans after Gold Cup disappointment
Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) President Michael Ricketts says several issues will be addressed regarding what he describes as a poor showing by the Reggae Boyz at the Concacaf Gold Cup recently.
Ricketts, who was speaking at the relaunch of the JFF’s Coaching Education Programme on Thursday morning, said it was necessary to apologise to the public for the team’s performance, which he describes as disappointing.
Ricketts said the public will be informed of the decisions as soon as they are made, and he believes it will please fans.
“The chairman of the Technical Committee (Rudolph Speid) is here and we have had a discussion this morning about the way to go forward,” Ricketts said. “I would want to say to you that a number of issues in this regard will be addressed.”
Ricketts would not specifically say what the issues are or how they will be addressed, but it is believed that the focus will be on the technical staff for the team. However, this does not necessarily mean any dismissals will be made.
The Reggae Boyz, coached by Steve McClaren, finished third in Group C of the regional competition, after losing 1-0 to Guatemala on Monday last week, then 4-1 to Panama on Tuesday. Their only win on the campaign was against Guadeloupe 2-1 on Friday. The third-place Group C finish means they exited the competition at the group stage for the first time since 2009, although they missed the tournament altogether in 2013.
