Hidden camera allegedly shows helper’s daughter stealing $800K
MONTEGO BAY, St James — A decade of trust came crashing down in Bogue Hill, St James, after hidden camera footage allegedly exposed a shocking betrayal and left one woman facing criminal charges.
Renae Fletcher of Orange, St James, appeared in the parish court on Wednesday, charged with simple larceny. She is represented by attorney-at-law Dalton Reid.
The defendant is the daughter of the complainant’s helper and had been staying at the family’s home on and off for the past 10 years.
However, things took a turn in May when the complainant said she began noticing that money she kept in a chest of drawers was disappearing.
On May 29, she installed a nanny cam — concealed inside a clock — and placed it in the drawer where the cash was stored.
The allegations are that while at work on June 6, the complainant received an alert on her phone about 1:35 pm. She said that when she checked, the footage showed the defendant inside her bedroom, removing items from the chest of drawers.
The complainant said she went home and discovered that a total of $800,000 and US$100 were missing. The matter was reported to the police, and Fletcher was subsequently arrested and charged with simple larceny.
After the allegations were read in court, the clerk noted that the footage was still outstanding.
Parish Judge Natiesha Fairclough-Hylton offered Fletcher bail in the amount of $200,000 with up to three sureties. Reporting conditions were imposed, and she was ordered to surrender all travel documents. A stop order is to be placed at all ports.
Fletcher is scheduled to return to court on July 23.
