Lion Face, friends find The Signal
Music producer Lion Face gets some help from his friends on The Signal, his latest rhythm project which is being released on Friday, June 27.
One of them is double Grammy winner Sean Paul, whom he first met 30 years ago.
Feel So Alive is Sean Paul and Maxi Priest’s contribution to the five-song project which also has songs by JC Lodge (Signal), Luciano (I Can Dream About You), Pressure with Morgan Heritage, and Anger N Wrath by Quan Dajai.
The Trinidad-born Lion Face was a leading sound system selector on the New York scene when he first met Sean Paul in the late 1990s.
“I am one of the individuals who helped Sean Paul’s career take off. I was the first person to bring him to New York, I was the first person to carry him to Boston, I was the first person to carry him to Bermuda, and no one ever heard of him,” said Lion Face. “It’s extra special that he’s recording for me.”
JC Lodge’s song is the first release from The Signal, which is the follow-up to the Excel, Lion Face’s rhythm which was released late last year. Lodge, best known for songs like Someone Loves You Honey and Telephone Love, had a hit single, Over, for him four years ago.
Pressure is Lion Face’s first collaboration with Morgan Heritage. It features Peetah Morgan, the Grammy-winning group’s lead singer who died in February 2024.
“This is a dream come true for my status, to be able to have Morgan Heritage on one of my productions. Peetah passed away a few days after sending the file to me,” he said. “It’s bittersweet, but a blessing, and we give thanks.”
