We will walk hand-in-hand
The custom of living together, being with each other, working together, struggling together and suffering together, is ancient and beautiful. Every nation and every race want this to be in their community and their village. Of course, this is not fully possible, but Christ does seek to unite all of us together as one brotherhood under one word of God, one principle of life, one love, one Ten Commandments, one set of beliefs.
There are leaders and directors of each community who govern us with love and justice to serve each other. Human nature does not allow for that perfect unity. There is competition, envy, jealousy and misunderstanding. But by the power of God we keep on trying. We seek to be tolerant and enduring. We seek to understand and persevere as we walk-through life hand-in-hand to the end.
In the production Isaiah I wrote a song, which came from the depth of my desire for peace, unity and brotherhood. It is titled
A world of Peace.
Peace! A world of peace,
A world of hope, a world of trust
where God is our saviour.
Peace! My king, not war,
Not blood, not death, not hate, not fear
where each man loves his neighbour.
Peace! A world of peace,
A world of hope, a world of faith,
Where God is love.
Peace! Let there be peace on Earth,
Let there be hope,
Let there be love, let there be peace.
Here upon this earth, God gives us land,
there is enough for all of us to live on.
Why, oh why have men destroyed and killed,
destroyed with hate,
when everybody hates war.
I am just a man, a humble man,
Who seeks the Lord.
And I do ask to stop the blood,
to stop the hate, to stop the fear,
to stop the war
Let God’s love reign,
Let God’s love reign.
Let there be peace on Earth,
Let there be peace, let there be hope,
Let there be peace, let there be peace.
When I think of the wars in this world, with their weapons and bombs, when I think of hatred and destruction with the wounds and death, I think that Christ’s dream of one world of peace and brotherhood is impossible.
Look at the war between Israel and Iran, Ukraine and Russia and the uneasiness between China and the US. Truly, only Christ, the one true God who suffered and died for us all, can bring about love between us all as He calls to all of us to “Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you and pray for those who persecute you.”
In our Missionaries of the Poor community we try to be united as one family in Christ. Chinese-Jamaicans, Vietnamese, Indonesians, Filipinos, Ugandans, Kenyans, Timorese, Haitians, Trinidadians, etc.
We are one Christian body; we are many races of many different colours and culture. We pray each day; we work each day for the poor of many races. We live under the same rules and constitutions given to us by the Lord in service of the poorest of the poor.
