William Knibb’s Seymore leads U-20 boys into 200m final
William Knibb Memorial’s Sanjay Seymore leads the qualifiers for the Under-20 boys’ 200m final at the JAAA/Puma National Junior Championships at the National Stadium on Sunday after running 21.22 seconds (-2.4m/s) on Saturday.
Junior Gallimore of Calabar High was next with 21.41 seconds (-3.1m/s), with Cornwall College’s Zachary Cox next with 21.45 seconds (-1.3m/s), chasing and passing Johan-Ramaldo Smythe, who also advanced with 21.64 seconds.
St Elizabeth Technical’s Sawayne Kerr (21.81) and Antonio Powell (21.52) also made progress.
Camperdown High’s Deequan Maragh led the qualifying in the boys’ Under-18 with 21.46 seconds (-2.3m/s), ahead of Kingston College’s Kyle Bodden (21.59 ) (-0.7m/s) and Nishawn Walker (21.84) (0.1m/s).
Jaydon Collins of Holmwood Technical, who was third in the 100m final on Friday, also advanced with 22.10 seconds (-2.3m/s).
Meanwhile, Calabar High’s Kamari Kennedy completed the Under-18 boys’ throws double when he won the discus throw with 61.32m.
A day earlier he had won the shot put title with 18.07m; however, in the discus final, he would have won with any of his other four legal throws, all over 54.90m.
Papine High’s Tyrone Henry was second with 47.39m and Khaleel Henry of Calabar High was third with 46.05m.
Calabar High’s throwers swept the discus throws and Delon Smith was the top Jamaican in the Under-20 section, throwing 51.44m, while Kingston College’s Grenadian representative Dylan Logan threw 53.93m.
Daijon Budhai was next with 50.70m and Munro College’s Devonte Edwards threw 49.42m.
