Arnett Gardens qualify in style for JWPL semis
Arnett Gardens FC qualified in style for the Jamaica Women’s Premier League semi-finals after an 11-0 thrashing of Springers United in their return match at the Granville Community Centre on Saturday.
Shikira Douglas scored six times as Arnett Gardens FC improved to 38 points. They join leaders Frazsiers Whip FC (48 points) and second-placed Cavalier FC (44) points in the semi-finals.
Douglas’ ‘double hat-trick’, four of which came in the second half, took her season’s tally to 29 goals. She is tied for second with Cavalier’s Shanel Spence, with both trailing Frazsiers Whip’s Davia Richards (33 goals).
Suen Gregory also scored a hat-trick for Arnett Gardens, including the game’s opening goal in the first minute of play. Tuanashae Hamilton and Briana Crosby each had a goal.
Cavalier cut the deficit between them and Frazsiers Whip to four points with a big 8-0 win over Federal United at Prison Oval. Spence finished with a treble after scoring in the 10th, 41st and 52nd minutes, while Kadian Edwards hit a brace and Kersha Thomas, Shadie Shirley and Oneillia Perkins all notched one goal each.
The big loss brought Federal United back to earth after they had beaten Real MoBay AFC a week earlier.
Los Perfectos FC, meanwhile, edged closer to a semi-final spot, beating Mile Gully FC 1-0 in their Manchester derby at Brooks Park.
Venicia Reid scored her 16th goal of the season in the 81st minute as Los Perfectos FC ended a two-game winless skid. The victory game them the double over Mile Gully this season.
Proven Girls FC scored only their third win of the season, blanking UWI Women’s FC 2-0 at York Sports Complex.
Julicia Pinnock scored both times for Proven Girls, in the 46th and a minute into time added at the end of the second half, as she moved to 11 goals this season. The teams had played out a 1-1 result in the reverse fixture.
At Carder Park, hosts Wifi FC beat Real MoBay AFC for the second time this season, taking the game 2-1. Tashel Davis gave the home team the lead in the second minute and Kafele Gibbs added a second in the 45th minute before Moya Thomas scored a consolation goal for Real MoBay in the 75th minute.
